The Senate has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint competent Nigerians to head and administer the North East Development Commission, as a means of reducing devastation in that part of the country.
Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan had presented a motion authored by Senator Danjuma Goje on behalf of all northeast senators at Wednesday’s plenary.
He thanked the presidency for the assent to the bill and sought for the inclusion of budgetary provisions in 2018 to
kick start the commission.
The agitation for similar commissions in other parts of Nigeria later heightened during the motion with some southeast senators demanding a speedy consideration of the Southeast Development Commission bill due to the challenges in that area.
