The minister of Information, Lai Mohammed said Nigeria has become one of the largest producers of rice with importation of the staple food dropping from about six hundred and forty five thousand metric tonnes to just twenty one thousand metric tonnes this year.
Minister Mohammed disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the successes recorded in the agricultural sector especially in rice production under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
He says the new development will boost the interest of foreign investors to establish rice milling plants which will further boost rice production and eventually bring down the high cost of rice in Nigeria.
