Around a thousand people attended a rally in Frankfurt on Saturday (December 16) protesting against U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Police told Reuters TV that it was a peaceful protest, and that the city had specifically forbidden burning any objects in relation to the demonstration.
On Sunday (December 10), about 2,500 people demonstrated in Berlin against Trump’s decision and one Israeli flag was burned, police said. They have launched investigations into 11 people, one of them related to the flag burning.
Trump’s decision ealier this month to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital reversed decades of U.S. policy and caused consternation across the Arab world and among Western allies. It has ignited “Day of Rage” street protests in the Palestinian territories and beyond.
