A British woman accused of smuggling drugs has appeared for her first criminal hearing at an Egyptian court.
33 year-old Laura Plummer, a shop worker from Hull, was arrested after Tramadol painkiller tablets, were found in her suitcase.
Her family said she bought the tablets for her Egyptian partner living in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada.
Tramadol is a prescription medicine in Britain, but it is banned in Egypt. She was arrested upon arrival from Britain last month. Her detention was renewed two times prior to referral to court.
Plummer’s lawyer Mohamed Othman said that he will ask for a translator to help Laura answer court questions correctly.
