Kenya’s opposition leader, Odinga declares self ‘People’s President’
Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has declared himself as the peoples president at a parallel inauguration following last year’s election boycott.
Kenyan authorities had shut down TV stations to prevent the live coverage of the swearing in event
but the main TV stations have been streaming the event on their websites and on YouTube and Facebook.
Speaking to Kenyan broadcaster KTN, Odinga said the media ban had quote-confirmed that Kenya had descended to the level of Uganda, which stopped media coverage during elections in 2016.
He said his “swearing-in” would “show the world that what the opposition was doing is legal, constitutional and not something to be described as a coup.
Meanwhile, there was no police presence to face the early group of Odinga supporters .
