The minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, has blamed years of neglect in the agriculture sector on Nigeria’s high unemployment rate, illegal migration and youth restiveness.TVC’s Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that the minister made the disclosure at the flag-off of the National Egg Production, NEGPRO Scheme in Aaye community, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, a public-private partnership initiative designed to create jobs for youths in Nigeria.
Ogbeh said many youths are jobless because they have imbibed the culture of doing nothing in the midst of boundless opportunities.
He added that many youths walked into voluntary slavery in Libya, South Africa and other countries across the world by refusing to engage in agribusiness jobs that other sectors of the economy cannot provide.
In his address, the State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, said his administration is fully prepared to partner the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in every possible way to ensure adequate implementation of the programme.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of Cheques of N564m to 135 farmers involved in
the scheme.
