Taraba State government has expressed its readiness to rehabilitate no fewer than 19,000 victims of herdsmen attacks in Katibu village.The pledge was made during an assessment tour of a camp where a majority of the displaced victims now call home.
Deputy Governor Haruna Manu, who represented the governor, directed local authorities to draw up a list of essential materials needed by the IDPs.
Correspondent Owolabi Adenusi reports that at Shawuya Primary School, where some victims are temporarily housed, Manu directs the immediate distribution of food items earlier provided by the state to the Internally Displaced Persons. He said security will be stepped up but warned residents to be tolerant and security-conscious.
A lawmaker and a local leader said personally witnessed the mass burial of 67 victims of the attack.
