China’s telecommunications giant Huawei on Sunday launched its new MateBook X Pro laptop, the world’s first edge-to-edge touch-screen laptop, on the eve of the opening of the 2018 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The MateBook X Pro has a touchscreen display measuring 13.9 inches, with a 3000 x 2000 resolution and a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio. The webcam has been built into the keyboard and it pops up at user’s option to protect privacy.
The Corning Gorilla Glass protected screen has 100 percent sRGB color gamut with a maximum brightness of 450 nits and a contrast ratio of 1500:1
The device comes with an eighth generation Inter Core i5 or i7 processor and has two USB ports and a USB A post. With a weight of 1.33 kilograms, the 14.6-millimeter-thick laptop is also considerably slimmer than the Apple MacBook Pro.
Battery life is estimated at 14 hours, which is considerably more than that of its predecessors and it also comes with an intelligent cooling system and a unique Spill Proof keyboard.
“This is the world’s first laptop with FullView design. You can see the margin is narrow here. Three sides of the screen are nearly borderless and the bottom is very narrow as well. This is a slim and light laptop. Some may think this is an average laptop. But actually it is the most advanced one with the latest eighth generation Inter Core i7 processor. It supports the latest NVIDIA graphics card. So it is outstanding in image processing and games. The laptop is the most advanced among all high-end products of its kind,” said Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group.
To cater to young customers stressing portability, the company also presented the MediaPad M5, a new range of tablets with 8.4 and 10.8 inch screens.
The MateBook X Pro will be on sale in the second quarter of 2018 in China, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia and is expected to have a retail price of 1,400 euros (1,721 U.S. dollars).
The MediaPad M5 will also be rolled out in China, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
