The paramount ruler of Ugbo Kingdom in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Frederick Akinruntan has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to correct lapses associated with the use of card reader machines before the 2019 general election.
The monarch gave the advice when the new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Rufus Akeju interacted with traditional rulers during their monthly meeting in Akure, the state capital.
TVC’s Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that at the meeting held in Akure, the State capital, the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Frederick Akinruntan urged the nation’s electoral body to correct this before the 2019 general election. The monarch also wants INEC to tackle the issue of underage voters.
The new REC, who led officials of the organisation to sensitise the monarchs, said the commission will look into the matters raised.
Akeju said INEC would continue to remain neutral in the conduct of elections in the country.
Akeju resumed as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State in January.
