More groups in Rivers State have continued to declare their interest to work for success of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2019 general election. This time around, it is some members of the Ikwerre Youth Movement, that have come out publicly to endorse the party at a rally in Port Harcourt.
Correspondent Uche Okoro reports that the Ikwerre Youth Movement, IYM ranks amongst one of the most prominent socio-political pressure groups loyal to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State.
Some members of the group are however here today to declare their allegiance to a Pro-PDP body, the Grassroot Development Initiative, GDI.
The same rally was also used as a public declaration of their defection from the APC to PDP. The crowd says they have had a change of heart and have decided to support what they described as the visionary leadership of the PDP-led state government.
With its eyes set on victory in the 2019 polls, the PDP in Rivers State has described the arrival of new members into its fold as a welcome development.
In order for political alignments like this to translate into actual votes on Election Day, the crowd was urged to actively participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise.
