fewer than 80,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Movement across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State have defected to the All Progressives Congress. This follows the defection to the APC, of Ahmed Moddibo, flag bearer of the party in the last governorship election.
Moddibo says the exodus of PDM supporters and other political party members to the APC would boost its chances in the 2019 general election.
Correspondent Owolabi Adenusi’s reports that Adamawa state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress was filled to brim as the PDM supporters decamped in their thousands to its fold in support of Aishat Binani’s aspiration for central senatorial district of the state on the platform of the APC.
Binani a former PDM chieftain, contested for the position in the last general poll but has now declared her intention to vie again under the APC banner.
Former PDM gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Moddibo, used the forum to express confidence that APC would be united ahead of the 2019 election with the inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s reconciliation committee.
He commended the APC leadership for the extension of the party’s exco tenure by a year.
Moddibo regretted that PDM was a party without structures when he contested on its platform.
Some of the defectors told TVC News that they joined the APC to contribute their quota to the development of the state and the nation in general.
Political activities are picking up ahead of the 2019 general election in Adamawa state, and the latest wave of defections won’t be the last.
