The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the dates for the next 10 general elections in Nigeria.
The dates, starting from the 2019 elections to that of 2055, cover a time span of 36 years.
INEC chairman, Mamood Yakubu, who made the announcement on Wednesday, explained that in other democratic climes, election dates were not issues for speculation as they were generally known.
He added that the announcement was informed by the need to ensure certainty in the election calendar and that the pre-scheduled dates will allow for long-term planning by the commission and all stakeholders.
The announcement is coming amid the debate to change the sequence of elections in the country.
