Reading FC appoints Paul Clement as new first team manager

English Championship side Reading FC have appointed Paul Clement as their new first team manager at the Madejski Stadium following the departure of Jaap Stam earlier in the week.

Stam left the Championship club by mutual consent following a wretched run of one league win in 18 matches, which left last season’s play-off finalists three points and two places above the relegation zone with just eight games remaining.

Now it’s up to new boss Clement to pick up the pieces, starting with QPR at home on Friday 30th March. Clement has previously managed Swansea and Derby, while he’s enjoyed most success as an assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti at the likes of Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Under the Italian the Englishman has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup (twice), and French title amongst other honours.

Clement ventured solo for the first time with Derby back in June 2015, but was rather harshly sent packing in February of the following year, with the Rams 5th in the Championship.

Clement returned for a second stab at management in January 2017 with Swansea, and went on to rescue the Welsh side from the dreaded drop out of the Premier League. His achievements at the Swans saw him nominated for Manager of the Season, despite only arriving in January.

But, come December of the current campaign, Clement found himself back in the Job Centre after he was sent packing with Swansea rock-bottom of the table. However, three months later and Clement is back in the managerial arena with Reading, with whom he’ll be bidding to lead to safety come the end of the season.
