Comptroller of Nigerian Customs in charge of Sokoto-Kebbi-Zamfara command, Ahmed Nasir has attributed the activities of bandits operating within the zones to access to illicit drugs and other intoxicating substances.
Nasir stated this at the command headquarters in Sokoto while handing over drugs (tramadol) intercepted by the men of the Command to the officials of the National Agency For Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC.
According to him, the incessant killings in some of the villages within this axis can only be perpetrated by persons under the influence of hard drugs.
The Customs boss is worried that despite the prohibition of importation of drugs and other pharmaceutical items through the land borders, some unscrupulous persons have refused to desist from the criminal act.
Ahmed Nasir vowed that the command will make life difficult for those criminal elements who are bent at destabilising the region through the importation of illicit drugs targeted at the youth of this zone.
