Commonwealth games: Powerlifter wins Nigeria’s first gold medal

Image result for Commonwealth games: Powerlifter wins Nigeria's first gold medalNigerian Powerlifter, Roland Ezuruike, has won the country’s first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games.

The paralympian took the top medal on Tuesday, lifting 224.3kg while countryman Paul Kehinde claimed the silver medal with a 219.9kg lift.

England’s Ali Jawad won the bronze with a lift of 182.7kg. Ezuruike won a silver medal in the men’s 72kg event at the 2014 edition of the competition.

Nigeria’s basketball team D’tigers lost another chance of reaching the semi finals of the commonwealth basketball contest.

D’tigers were beaten 66 to 61 points by Scotland with 33 year old Gareth Murray posting a matching winning performance for the Scots with 17 points and 8 rebounds.

This means D’tigers have lost every game played so far in Gold Coast following previous losses to New Zealand, Canada and Australia.
