The FCT Police Command has released the suspended Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, who was arrested for allegedly leading thugs into Senate plenary to disrupt the Senate plenary and took away the Mace.
The suspended Senator was arrested at about 2:00pm Nigerian time after some hoodlums suspected to be his supporters stormed the senate plenary and went away with the chamber’s symbol of authority.
The arrest, which was carried out by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, followed the request of the Senate leadership which accused the suspended the Senator of committing treason.
Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central in the Upper chamber, was last week suspended for 90 legislative days over his comments against the chamber during the poll reordering controversy. Omo-Agege had accused his colleagues of targeting President Muhammadu Buhari in its amended electoral act which changed the order of the general election.
Although the Senator initially apologized for his comments, he later retracted same after he approached the Court for fear of being suspended by the Chamber.
In the meantime, the National Assembly leadership has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director-General of the DSS, Mamman Daura to recover the missing Mace within 24 hours.
