The second Regional Conference on the Lake Chad Basin starts in Abuja today. This conference comes as a result of humanitarian crisis faced by millions of people in Africa’s Lake Chad region.
The crisis has led to massive internal and cross-border displacement of several people, extreme poverty, climate change and violent conflict
The conference will discuss issues aimed at saving the lake from insurgency and other refugee issues
Participants are from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, CAR, Benin and the European Union.
Reports say more than ten million vulnerable people need life-saving humanitarian assistance and protection today especially women and children .
