Solid minerals miners and other operators in the sector have pledged to mobilise five million votes for President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve his second term bid of another four years. Our Correspondent reports that hours after one of Nigeria’s registered political parties, ACPN, endorsed President Buhari for another term, solid Minerals Miners and other practitioners in the sector have pledged their support.
The revolution was spearheaded by a former governor. Isa Yuguda, now a miner, said the remarkable progress and transformation in the sector in the last three years are the reasons for the support.
The miners feel the gains of the past three years may be eroded if Buhari is not returned. The group is confident it can garner up to 5 million votes for the APC in the presidential election.
It lists landmark achievements of the Buhari administration in the sector to include the 30 billion naira intervention fund for exploration projects.
Other successes include improved revenue generation from N2.08 billion in 2015 to N3.92 billion in 2017, the establishment of the artisanal and small scale financing support fund and the introduction of the National Gold
Purchase Scheme.
