The Nigerian Labour Congress and Civil society groups have embarked on a National Protest this Tuesday, 8th of January, to push for the implementation of the 30,000 naira minimum wage.
The NLC in Abuja set the tone for the day with it’s own rally.
Addressing NLC members in Abuja, president of the union, Ayuba Wabba said the struggle for new minimum wage has gone beyond negotiation level.
“What e are now asking for is the implementation of N30,000 as the new national minimum wage because we have gone beyond negotiation level,” Wabba said.
He urged members to vote out any government not willing to pay the new minimum wage of N30,000.
Lagos rally
Leaders of organised Labour in Lagos on Tuesday, also took to the street to rally for the implementation of N30,000 as the new national minimum wage. Our Correspondent reports that the rally was attended by labour leaders, and covered major parts of the state.
Sokoto Rally
And in Sokoto, the train took off from Tsafe road where the Secretariat is situated through Gusau road and they are heading for the Sokoto State Government House.
Port Harcourt
Meanwhile, Labour leaders in Port Harcourt said the union will have no choice but to embark on a nationwide strike if the federal government does not meet its demands.
Kwara rally
And the NLC rally is also holding in Kwara state. Labour leaders in Kwara state also took to the street to demand the implementation of #30,000 minimum wage.
They delivered a letter to the representative of the governor on the agitation of the labour.
A foremost labour leader and labour party governorship candidate in Kwara state, Issa Aremu, who was also part of the protest, said the Nigerian worker deserves more than just the minimum wage but leaving wage.
Responding, the head of service, Susan Oluwole, promised to deliver their message to governor AbdulFatah Ahmed.
Ekiti rally
Labour leaders in Ekiti State also joined the nationwide protest mobilisation rally.
They assembled at the city centre in the state capital, Ado Ekiti and with the revolutionary music of Fela Anikulapo in the background, the leaders took turns to address the gathering.
The labour leaders later marched to the Governor’s Office where the representative of the NLC President delivered a letter to the Ekiti State Government.
