Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shi’ites have declared they are ready to die for their spiritual leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-zakzaky.
They made this known in Abuja on Tuesday as they virtually took over the streets of the metropolis of the central Business District of Abuja.
“We are ready to die for Elzakzaky. We will not back down until our leader and his wife are released. We are ready to die for El-zazaky.”
Previous protest by members of the group had turn violent.
The IMN leader is facing trial for alleged murder, culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace, among other charges.
El-Zakzaky and his wife were first arraigned on May 15, 2018 following their arrest in Zaria, in December 2015.
And just before the protest began, the National security Adviser, Mohammed Monguno had sent a letter to the Inspector general of Police, Adamu Muhammed.
He informed the IGP that the Shiite group was planning to launch coordinated attacks on detention facilities during the election in a bid to forcefully free their leaders.
