Wife of the president, Aisha Buhari has commended the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC for ensuring that the country’s disease burden arising from consumption of counterfeit drugs, food contamination, is drastically reduced.
Mrs Buhari gave the commendation at the silver jubilee anniversary celebration of the agency in Abuja.
She said before the establishment of the agency there was an unregulated flow of unwholesome medicines, food and other products into the country
that affected health care delivery.
Aisha Buhari expressed optimism that with the commitment demonstrated by the management of the agency, Nigeria will soon get a clean slate in food security and the fight against counterfeit drugs.
The Director- General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye and Chairman, NAFDAC governing council, Inuwa Abdulkhadir, said the agency
under their watch recorded immensed progress and they are determined to consolidate the achievement.
They also, urged staff to work in Unity for more records of success.
Governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Gaidam was recognised by the agency for partnering to rid his state of fake drugs.
The governor disclosed that his administration is concerned about the health of the people and would always ensure NAFDAC succeeds in its task of
fighting fake drugs.
For NAFDAC, the commendation from the wife of the president a d the governor of Yobe state will give them a new impetus to discharge their duty
of countering the spread of counterfeit drugs.
Activities to mark the day include, Award presentation, book lunch, cultural display among others.
