The Christian Association of Nigeria (C.A.N) has called for enhanced intelligence as the nation grapples with security challenges in Zamfara State where the federal government has now banned mining activities and Birnin Gwari axis of Kaduna State.
The call comes following the latest invasion of villages in Birnin Gwari on Saturday, which left two policemen, and other people dead.
Leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria blamed the situation on lack of intelligence by security agencies.
In a statement by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, media aide to C.A.N President, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle, C.A.N was reacting to the killings of Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Michael Akawu, and a Baptist Church pastor, Rev. Hosea Akuchi.
Rev. Fr. Akawu of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish, Dobi, Gwagwalada had reportedly been shot on Saturday in Abuja by unknown gunmen while Pastor Akuchi of the Nasara Baptist Church in Guguwa near Rigasa in Kaduna, was reportedly shot by some suspected Fulani herdsmen at about 1.00am on Sunday.
C.A.N says Nigeria’s security situation is reprehensible, unacceptable and condemnable and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rejig the security system of the country.
