A group of human rights activists is demanding justice for the victims of extra-judicial killings by the police to serve as a deterrent against such killings.
Defence Correspondent, Sifon Essien, reports that the killing of a couple in Lagos on Saturday, 13th April triggered an outcry of condemnation by many Nigerians who worry that rather than protect life, some police operatives are doing otherwise.
Although, the police authorities are taking disciplinary actions against erring operatives, many Nigerians insist that a lot more needs to be done
to stop extrajudicial killings by the police.
Apart from punishment for deviant police operatives, human right groups like this one are demanding justice for the victims particularly the Civil
Defence officer who died on the 20th of March after an altercation with the police in Abuja.
An Unconfirmed autopsy report indicates the Civil Defence officer died as a result of the beating he received.
