Nasarawa State Police Command said ti has commenced investigation into the attack launched by suspected herdsmen in Kochum-Numa Village in the state.
The police command said the attack claimed fifteen lives. Two of the attackers have also been identified by the villagers.
According to eyewitness accounts, the hoodlums opened fire on the villagers while they were holding a party between 9 and 10pm on Sunday.
Some of the dead bodies have been deposited in Hospital while those who sustained bullet wounds are receiving treatment .
It is not certain what led to the recent killings, but the community was thrown into tension few weeks ago when ethnic clash between herdsmen and local farmers claimed the lives of two people and destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The Nasarawa senator described the killings as unfortunate, barbaric and uncalled for.
Gyunka said: “The unfortunate thing is that the celebrants — the father, mother and the boy — were killed. A pregnant woman is involved in this attack. An aged person above 100 years is also involved in the attack.
“They did not spare women or children and this are the people that don’t have arms.”
Gyunka said that he recently moved a motion on the floor of the Senate calling on the federal government to establish a military base in Akwanga, as according to him, “Because Akwanga is a range for people from Calabar, Maiduguri etc meet in Akwanga to go to Abuja.”
