Katsina Ministry of Health has commenced Community-based health service outreaches as some of the measures adopted to cover maternal and child healthcare in the state.
In recent years, a lot of lives have been lost to preventable diseases, causing the ministry to adopt a different approach in getting vaccines to the people.
Women assembled with their husbands to receive messages on health care for pregnant mothers and children under five. It is a new strategy to take enlightenment down to the ward level on the dangers of resisting immunization and preventing pregnant women from attending antenatal sessions.
The programme being run under saving one million lives health initiative has so far met with over 5ooo women in eleven local governments
across the state.
The outreach sessions also provide the opportunity to give priority to issues such as nutrition, hygiene, immunization, campaigns on malaria and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV.
