Sri Lankan PM denies knowledge of potential danger

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, said he does not believe he should step down because he was not warned ahead of the deadly Easter Sunday bombings.

He said that crucial information about any potential danger in the country was not passed to him.

This follows reports of an early warning of impending attacks which was not taken seriously by the defence ministry and the Police.

The country’s police chief and top defence ministry official have both resigned over this recent controversy. But Mr Wickremesing said the fact that he was unaware of the warnings meant he did not need to step down from his position.
