The death toll from Saturday’s fuel tanker explosion has risen to fourteen as two more victims died from their injuries. The accident which led to the explosion is the most recent in a series of vehicular crashes along the bypass road in Gombe town.
Correspondent Lanre Adeyemi who spoke to relatives of some victims, reports that tears and anguish best described their mood as even many tried to conceal their grief as the fight for the living continues.
Some of the injured were transferred from the state specialist hospital to the federal teaching hospital also in Gombe.
Vehicular crashes occur frequently in Gombe town, especially those involving articulated trucks partly due to the steep gradient of the roads,
as the town is in a valley.
Residents want relevant authorities to formulate a permanent solution to these incessant crashes to save precious lives.
