Some Nigerian youths have advised the Federal Government to focus more on youth empowerment programmes and training in order to reduce unemployment in the country.
They made this known in Abeokuta after participating in a federal government training programme, facilitated by one of the agencies of the Ministry of Water Resources.
Kazeem Olowe reports that according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the rate of unemployment keeps increasing every year and as at the third quarter of 2018, the figure was 20.9 million Nigerians.
In order to reduce the figure and to build an economical viable country, the federal government has embarked on different programmes like the social investment programme, youth empowerment programme and trainings among others.
Months after the commencement of such programmes, some beneficiaries of a youth Empowerment Programme anchored by the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development, under the ministry of Water Resources have appealed to the federal government to intensify efforts on such programmes in order to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.
Aside from the training, the participants were given take off grants and tools to use in starting their businesses. Those that selected Agriculture were taking to the farm for practical.
They believed that with such training and Financial support from the federal government, millions of unemployed youths would be taken off the
