The Central bank of Nigeria has unveiled its clean note policy and banknote fitness guidelines.
This initiative is focused on maintaining quality standards for cash handlers and banknotes production and re-circulation.
The clean note policy is a spectrum of diverse currency management activities geared towards the efficient circulation of premium quality banknotes and withdrawal of unfit banknotes to guarantee public confidence.
The policy document states that banks should ensure notes in circulation are clean and of good quality.
A campaign against the abuse of Naira notes has also been introduced and the apex bank says it will be intensified and those found culpable will be liable to a fine or prosecuted.
The central bank of Nigeria says it will ensure the adequacy and availability of currency bank notes in the right denominational mix to meet public demand and maintain confidence in the national currency.
