Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has charged the firm handling the ongoing road rehabilitation work on
Umunya /Amawbia axis of the Onitsha/Enugu expressway to speed up work in the bid to meet up the delivery mandate.
The minister gave the directive during an inspection visit to the project site at Umunya axis in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state
Represented by the Director Federal Highway in the Ministry, Engr Yemi Oguntunminiyin, he emphasised on the need that the ministry would employ the contractor to double its efforts to ensure the work progresses faster before rains are fully down.
The minister noted that the project was very important to the federal government given the fact that the road connects many states in the
South-East and the North.
The Minister though expresses satisfaction with the level and quality of the project, assured that in no distant time the project will be completed.
Updating the minster on the project monitoring for effective compliance, the Comptroller, Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, Anambra Engr Adeyemo Ajani said his officials regularly visited the site, noting that all the challenges raised by the firm had been addressed and that in no distant time, with the level of progress made on the site the project will be completed.
The minister’s representative visited members of the Oyi Local Government Area Traditional Rulers Council at their Secretariat in Nteje before the road inspection.
The minister also used the occasion to perform the ground breaking ceremony for Umunya/Awkuzu Federal Sites and Services Housing Estate before the inspection visit to the Federal Secretariat, Awka.
