Four foreign hostages including two French citizens have been rescued by French commandos from a militant group in Burkina Faso.
This led to the death of two elite soldiers in the night-time operation.
French special forces carried out the raid over the night of Thursday to Friday, supported by U.S. intelligence to counter Islamist militants in the Sahel region.

President Emmanuel Macron’s office said, all four hostages were safe, adding that a U.S. woman and a South Korean woman were also freed in the covert operation.
Four kidnappers were also killed and two escaped in the encounter.
