The Eiffel Tower, France’s most iconic monument, has celebrated its anniversary marking 130 years since it first opened to the public.
Rising 324 meters above Paris, the famed “Iron Lady” was designed by Parisian engineer Gustave Eiffel and built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition.
The construction of the most famous of Parisian monuments took two years, two months and five days, which was considered a feat of technical prowess at the time, mobilising between 300 and 450 workers.

Seven million tourists visit the Eiffel Tower each year, with a total of 300 million visitors from across the world since 1889.
