A Lagos-based lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has filled a suit against President Muhammadu Buhari for travelling without informing the National Assembly.
The president returned from his private visit to the United Kingdom on May 5, after spending 10 days.
Inibehe Effiong said this constitutional provision of a written declaration to the national assembly would have enabled the Vice president to serve as acting president.
Mr Effiong instituted the case at the federal high court, Ikoyi and added the Attorney general of the federation as second defendant.
During the president’s absence, his media aide, Garba Shehu was quoted to have said the president was only absent for a short period and so could exercise authority from anywhere. But according to the lawyer, the security situation of the country worsened during the period of the president’s absence.
