Nigeria faces disqualification from the track and field events of the All Africa Games, the World Athletics Championship and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games over the IAAF missing 150,000 dollars.
The world track and field governing body has threatened Nigeria with severe action if she does not make a refund of the balance of the sum the IAAF mistakenly sent in 2017.
The world body sent 150,000 dollars in error to Nigeria instead of 15,000 dollars for the Warri Relays and Grand Prix
But the Sports Ministry and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, have not responded to the IAAF’s request for the money to be returned for two years.
The world body has withheld prize money won by Nigerian athletes at international events.
I spoke with the Technical Director of the AFN on the missing dollars.
