The office of the national security adviser is taking steps to tackle emerging threats such as kidnapping and banditry.
At a forum in Abuja, the national security strategy committee noted with concern that the spate of kidnapping has overtaken armed robbery in the country.
The 2019 strategy developed by the Office of the National Security Adviser defines how government and non-governmental agencies should prevent or respond to security threats.
It’s an update to the 2014 strategy developed by the former National Security Adviser.
Since the former strategy was developed, new security challenges in the country have evolved, assuming worrying dimensions.
The spate of kidnapping is reported to have overtaken armed robbery.
This among other threats necessitated the update to the strategy.
But the 2019 strategy would only become applicable when the think tanks agree to it.
