The Ondo State Government has dismissed news making the rounds that it has increased tuition in all the state-owned tertiary institutions.
This clarification is coming on the heels of the protest embarked upon by students of the state-owned universities, who called on government to review their school fees.
Students of tertiary institutions in Ondo State have continued to protest what they labelled unjustifiable increase in their tuition fees.
The State Government says it has not discussed the issue of fee increment or planned to raise the tuition payable by students of its tertiary institutions.
At a Press briefing in Akure, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Yemi Olowolabi asked students of the schools to disregard rumour of the tuition hike.
The Commissioner claimed that the protesters are not students of any of the state-owned institutions, but what he called professional “Student leaders”, who are only sponsored by desperate politicians.
Olowolabi enjoined the students to face their studies, rather than being misled by rumour mongers, who are only out to discredit the State Government.
But the students insist that they are fighting for their rights and are not sponsored by politicians.
The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, and that of the State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa have also described the increment as mere rumour.
