As part of the social security packages initiative introduced by President Muhamadu Buhari to alleviate poverty and create employment, Lagos state government and the institute of road transport workers has inaugurated a micro bus empowerment scheme in Lagos.
Public transportation refers to the means by which larger proportion of urban dwellers gain physical access to the goods, services and activities they need for their livelihood and well being.
Public transportation therefore plays a very important role in both developed and developing world cities.
It helps reduce reliance on private car ownership by providing an affordable alternative for urban commuters.
The institute of road transport workers has moved away from focusing on training road transport workers, its now redefining and remodeling the entire sector to meet international standards .
These buses will not ply cities but designated places to bring people from their houses to places where they will board BRT and other commercial buses.
