Today is Leah Sharibu’s sixteenth birthday and her four hundred and forty ninth day in Boko Haram captivity.
She was 14 years old when she was abducted by terrorists from Government Girls’ Science and Technical Secondary School in Dapchi, Yobe State, along with one hundred and eleven other girls and a schoolboy.
The other girls were released leaving Leah, the only girl still in captivity.
This has led a Coalition of well meaning Nigerians to again appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to fast track her release to serve as an inaugural gift to Nigerians.
As Leah Sharibu turns sixteen today, Family and friends gathered at the National Christian Centre in Abuja to say a prayer for her.
From the church, Leah Sharibu’s well wishers moved to the unity fountain in Abuja where they are calling on the government to ensure her release from captivity.
The celebration for Leah Sharibu is also on in Lagos.
Members of The Leah Sharibu foundation, catalyst for peace and justice, CWEEN women and the para malham peace foundation are gathered in Okoto to draw attention to the plight of the only christian girl still in Boko Haram captivity.
