Five students of Madonna University will remain in Prison for longer due to the absence of the Judge handling the case against them.
Their offence is a post on social media, complaining about the bad condition which the university allegedly placed the students.
The hope to finalise the bail condition being met by families of the detained five undergraduates, one Youth Corps members Chijioke Nnamani and
a lecturer of Madonna University in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state was dashed as the trial Judge, Justice B.O. Quadri was absent again.
Parents and relations of the six students of Madonna University, Okija, detained since February over an opinion they posted on Facebook, in which
they complained about, alleging its inhuman treatment in the university, have called for their release.
Meanwhile, members of the National Association of Nigerian Students barricaded the court entrance in protest, demand for unconditional release
of the students by the management of the institution or face the wrought of the Nigerian students.
They demanded an unconditional release of the detained students from Awka prisons, threatened to shot down the school premises after seven day
ultimatum given to the school authority.
The defense counsel gave the names of the detained students as, Benedict Amaechi, Michael Owhomani, Jonathan Abuno, Blackson Nwokeoma and Nnamdi Opara and Chijioke Nnamni a youth corps member serving in Delta State
The prosecutor said the alleged offences were punishable under sections 27 (1) (b) and 24 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc)
Act, 2015.
Reports that the accused persons, who were said to be editorial board members of VOX MADONNA, a magazine published by the University, were first arraigned on Feb. 16.
