Governor Umar Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State is offering an olive branch to kidnappers and members of a dreaded gang popularly know as “Shila Boys.”
He says they have until two weeks to hand over their weapons to security angecies and embrace the opportunity to live as free men once again under the amnesty policy.
Security of lives and property is an essential requirement that enables citizens to fully enjoy the liberties they deserve.
That has been a difficulty for the Adamawa State government. With its latest amnesty policy, Gov Fintiri believes the government can finally break the camel’s back.
In the same vein, the government is also taking steps to review local government law in the state.
The government hopes that within the framework of an executive bill debt to the state House of Assembly, a number of other key issues will be addressed.
Fintiri also spoke on his policy on education revamping as a mean of poverty reduction among teaming youth.
But residents of the state have divergent views on local government autonomy.
Recently the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) announced a ban on transactions on state and local governments joint accounts, arguing that such accounts are only transitional accounts from where funds should go directly to local governments.
Political viewers believe that with the limit placed on cash withdrawals from local governments accounts to N500,000 daily and warning on banks to ensure strict compliance by NFIU autonomy of local governments are is in view.
