Key players in the Nigeria State Health Investment Project, NSHIP in Ondo State, have met, with a view to sustaining the programme after its expiration in 2020.
Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, is one of the states that have keyed into the Nigeria State Health Investment Project, N-SHIP.
The project is designed to increase delivery and use of high impact maternal and child health interventions, for improved healthcare at selected facilities in the participating states.
The project was piloted in December, 2011 in Ondo East Local Government Area of the State, before it was scaled-up to other council areas in 2015.
But the programme, which is facilitated by the World Bank, will expire in 2020.
Hence, key players in the project gathered in Akure, to review the impact and its possible sustainability.
Executive Secretary of Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Francis Akanbiemu says the project has facilitated improved services at the Primary Healthcare level in the State.
He noted that government would ensure that the NSHIP is sustained, after expiration of the pilot in 2020.
The state coordinator of NSHIP Paulinus Omode and other speakers also gave insight into the programme.
NSHIP, which models a new way of financing healthcare by payment on performance basis, was piloted in Adamawa, Nasarawa and Ondo States.
