Rev. Supo Ayokunle has been re-elected President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The results were announced on Tuesday by Bishop Matthew Kukah, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja.
Ayokunle got 59 votes to defeat the runner up, Rev. Caleb Solomon-Ahima, President, Fellowship of Christian Churches in Nigeria (TEKAN), who got 44 votes.
Ahima, according to the CAN constitution, becomes the Vice President of the organisation.
President Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja, congratulated church leaders and Christendom in general for the successful election, assuring the President of CAN that his administration will continue to strengthen the cordial relationship that has existed, especially in tackling the challenges facing Nigeria.
