Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari wants all heads of government of member states to remain focused on maintaining peace and security in the West African sub-region.
He made these remarks as the Chair of the Authorities of Heads of States and Governments of ECOWAS while opening the 55th ordinary session of highest arm of the ECOWAS body in Abuja.
President Buhari also expressed appreciation to other international agencies for the support the sub region has received in its fight against terrorism.
ECOWAS, a sub region on the African continent, is currently ravaged by insecurity, stemming from terrorism, banditry and inter-communal clashes.
The heads of governments of countries affected have had their hands full, coming up with strategies to see an end to insecurity.
Insecurity is a menace with attendants effect that hampers economic growth, social cohesion, and integration which is the founding objective of ECOWAS.

Special recognition and awards of excellence were given to some that have distinguished themselves in art and other endeavours, with the Wife of Kofi Anan was also recognised
The authorities of Heads of State and Government will consider the 2019 interim report of ECOWAS, report of the ordinary meeting of the mediation and security council and the ECOWAS council of minister’s report.
The authorities will also consider the report on the political situation in Guinea Bissau, report of the ECOWAS single currency and election of the next chair of the ECOWAS authority of Heads of State and Government
