The Borno state Customs Command has destroyed contraband soap and Fish estimated to cost over 20 million naira, which was confiscated along the Maiduguri to Kano highway, amidst Tight security.
Top officers of the customs and excise were in Maiduguri to witness the exercise which took on the outskirts of Maiduguri the borno state capital
Kolomi Dala reports that the contraband consignment was transported in 6 trucks amidst Tight security and was monitored by top custom officers and other security agencies
They gathered to see to the destruction of the expired crusader soap and contaminated fish which the customs officials say has been in their
warehouse since 2018.
This senior customs officer was sent to Maiduguri from Abuja to monitor the destruction of the commodities by orders of the top hierarchy of the
customs and excise command.
Under strict supervision the highly contagious contraband commodities were set ablaze.
The customs officials concluded the exercise, cautioning the general public about the dangers of illegal importation of banned products.
This type of exercise has been rare in this part of the country due to the insurgency over the years. But it will serve as a deterrent to those
taking advantage of insecurity in the region to engage in illegal smuggling of banned products in the Region.
