Dialogue will solve Ruga Policy controversy – Masari

Governor of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari, said that the controversy over the Rural Grazing Area project can be resolved through dialogue.

Abdullatif Yusuf reports that the idea of RUGA settlements is a familiar concept in most parts of the north but may sound strange to others. In years, farmers and herdsmen had lived in peace based on a symbiotic relationship that existed between them.

Consumers need both crops and good meat to survive, and this binds the farmers and herdsmen in the same food supply chain

Governor Aminu Bello Masari believes through dialogue all outstanding issues can be resolved without violence.

Other experts think the federal government should have focused on redeveloping existing cattle ranches in the country before creating new
ones.

Despite the land mass Nigeria is endowed with, there is need for a policy that will be amenable to both farming communities and pastorialists
and which will put and end to the conflicts once and for all.
