The Federal government has inaugurated an audit panel to determine what has affected the growth and development of the African University of
Science and technology in Abuja.
The African University of Science and technology is a Pan-African institution, established in 2007 in response to a request from several
African Heads of State, following a request made by former President Nelson Mandela of South Africa.
But since then, the day-to-day management and operational activities of the university, have refused to take off.
IN 2017, a fact -finding team was constituted by the National University Commission to ascertain the state of affairs at the institution and allay
the fears of concerned stakeholders.
The Federal government resolved that the challenges facing the African University are consequences of unresolved ownership issues and governance
issues requiring urgent attention. It is against this backdrop that the government has set up this panel.
The committee among other things is mandated to conduct an In-depth review of the issue of ownership of the university as a private university and
advise on appropriate actions to be taken by Government
