President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to urgently sign into law the federal Audit service commission bill in order to strengthen its anti-corruption campaign.
Audit experts believe that existing laws and the pre independent audit ordinance can not deal effectively with modern corruption challenge.
Nigeria is one country heavily involved in battling with corruption.
Yet Transparency international in its corruption perception index 2018 report still rates Nigeria very high in corruption among other Countries in world .
To successfully tackle this challenge, a group of analysts wants the President to sign the audit bill into law in order to help exit Nigeria from the list of heavily corrupt countries.
The audit bill was passed to the president for assent in January 2019 by the 8th Assembly.
It has remained on the President’s table, yet to see the light of the day.
The group is confident that when the Bill is signed into law, it will ensure that public resources are effectively managed.
Nigeria is currently using the audit ordinance Act of 1956 and there have been attempts in the past to repeal the law through the proposed audit bill 2014.
