Today 17th of July is commemorated globally as the international day of justice. In Abuja, there was a peaceful protest seeking an end to the widespread killings and violent crimes in the country.
The recent death of the daughter of a prominent Yoruba leader Funke Olakunri sparked a nationwide outrage and calls for justice.
Several groups have also criticized the government’s handling of security issues and it’s inability to protect lives and property
The protesters are called the Yoruba collectives and they are asking for restructuring, security overhaul, end to open grazing, massive security operations in the forests and justice for victims of violence .
The protesters urged president Muhammadu Buhari to respond to the seeming deteriorating security situation in the country .
They are also worried about the farmers and herdsmen clash that has festered for too long and now threatens food security especially for rural dwellers who are mostly subsistence farmers.
