The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure has sponsored sixty engineers to China to acquire technical skills on how to run the transformer manufacturing lines and high voltage testing laboratory, to be put in place by the Federal Government.
The training is being undertaken by the Chinese great wall corporation, and will include how to produce transformer manufacturing lines locally, in order to reduce importation of electricity equipment.
In 2013, The Chinese Great Wall Corporation and the National Agency For Science and Engineering Infrastructure signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), of 20.4 million dollars to establish a local transformer manufacturing plant in Kogi State.
The plant when completed, would be the second largest transformer Producing plant In Africa but it was stalled because of delay in implementation of the agreement.
It was re-engineered in 2015,despite the delay on the part of Nigeria.
These set of engineers are going to be the key drivers of the transformer manufacturing plant when completed.
Some of the engineers, are optimistic that their training would also that the address some of the bottlenecks in the power sector.
Nigeria needs a reliable solution to power generation in order to meet the needs of the distribution companies across the country.
Regular breakdown of transformers and insufficient power equipment continue to cause serious setbacks to effective power distribution.
