The House of Representatives has tasked the federal government to make provisions for the construction of a coastal road from Ise in Ibeju Lekki to Victoria Island in Lagos in the 2020 Appropriation Bill.
National Assembly Correspondent Joke Adisa reports that the resolution followed the adoption of a motion by Mr. Adebayo Balogun from Lagos state.
The Lekki Coastline road from Akoko Ise in Ibeju Lekki to Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island is part of the Federal government’s proposed Port
Harcourt to Lagos Coastal Road project.
Mr. Adebayo Balogun describes the coastline as the fastest growing economic and industrial hub especially with the establishment of the Lekki
Free Trade Zone which sits on a total land area of 16500 hectares.
To buttress his argument, the legislator cites the annual statistics bulletin report for 2019. It shows that the value of the country’s petroleum exports in 2018 amounted to $54.51 billion while its import was $54.64 billion
This rendered the export increase by $16.5 billion in 2018 on the $37.98 billion realised in n 2017 of no impact as the value of imports outweighed
exports. This, the parliamentarian blames on absence of the Lekki coastal road
The motion, urges the federal ministry of power, works and housing to commence the process of completing the whole stretch of the Port
Harcourt-Lagos coastal road.
